TO DISCOVER,CONTEMPLATE AND BE TOUCHED

On summer holidays or all year round, Plougonvelin invites you to a break punctuated by wind and tides...Here the natural elements stimulate people and mould landscapes. The Breton miracle is an astonishing climate which either forces the wind blown shrinking moors to cling to the cliffs or its mildness allows tropical essences to bloom.
This contrast, each inhabitant here carries it in him. Meeting them is the start of your discovery.

Saint Mathieu Point

A visit to this North Finistere site is a must. This remote, ultimate cape shelters ruins of a 10th century abbey overlooking the sea, Saint Mathieu lighthouse and signal station on either side of it. Information boards in the Museum invite the inquisitive visitor to discover more about the site. Behind the Abbey ruins, the lighthouse guards the site and watches over the impredictable ocean night and day. From June to September, you can climb to the top of the lighthouse 56m above ground for a guided visit. Splendid seascapes with an endless stream of islands and islets under your very eyes. More information on 00 33 2 98 89 00 17.

Bertheaume Fort...

Do not miss this island beaten by winds and tides, ruggedly beautiful, dominating the Brest Channel from a height of 38m. Walled by Vauban in the 17th century, it has witnessed lots of naval battles. Nowadays, faithfully restaured, it gives evidence of its tumultuous past.
