AN EXCEPTIONAL COASTLINE

Plouescat has a coastline of 15 kilometres (10 miles) that encompass all varieties of the coastal environment: bays, long sandy beaches , huge rocks and  fishing harbours. The coastal path (Grand Routier 34) takes in a number of vantage/viewing points, from which you get to really appreciate the coast.
At the sharp end of Kernic Bay, the dunes of Keremma run for 10 kilometres (6 miles) to the small village of Goulven. The dunes are a protected nature reserve, that are very popular with walkers. There is a very large variety of flora and fauna here that are well worth a visit.

MARINE ACTIVITIES

3 sites, one with a range of activities, and one that has professional level equipment.
Porsguen nautical centre offers training courses, and instruction on various 'platforms' (catamaran, optimist, centre-board, funboard...).
The Sand Yachting centre in the magnificent Kernic Bay offers training from introduction to advanced in this exhilarating sport.
'Point Passion'  in Porsmeur  offers training courses, and is a place where you can rent a variety of nautical craft - e.g. sea kayaks, surf boards, wind surf boards.

MEGALITHS AND AMAZING ROCKS

Roc’h Paotred ar Zabad
Also called 'Rocher des lutins' ( Rock of the sprites) a legend implies that diabolic spirits were supposed to leave the slits of the rock and would have been able, for example to ploough a field in only one night...

The "allée couverte" of Guinirvit
The allée couverte' of Guinirvit is a sort of small 'seahenge'. It dates from about 4.500 B.C. (the end of the Neolithic period and the start of the bronze age). It is a rare megalithic site and is situated on the beach between low and high water mark.
The menhir of Cam Louis
It is rare to find a menhir so close to the sea. It is about 7 metres tall, which puts it amongst the tallest menhirs of France. There is a tale that treasure can be unearthed here, but only in the period of the twelve strokes of the clock on Christmas Eve!
